What Will Happen?
When your vet calls us, they will already have explained to you why they are referring your pet. Your vet will send our specialist all the clinical information about your pet’s illness including the results of any tests and X-ray images they have taken. They will give us your contact details and a member of our administrative staff will call you promptly to arrange a mutually convenient appointment.
If you have transport difficulties we can arrange for you and your pet to be collected by one of our Ambulances. We will advise you whether to withhold food or medication from your pet, in case of the need for sedation or anaesthetic.
The administrative staff will give you a price for the initial consultation and a guide to the costs of any tests likely to be carried out on the same day. Your pet’s specialist will give you a full written estimate for the treatment plan they have agreed with you during the initial consultation. Please see our Costs page in this section for more information on our fees.
When you arrive at the clinic, everyone will understand that you are worried about your pet and do their best to put you both at ease. The receptionist will check your details, explain our Terms of Business and ask you to sign a form confirming that you have read them.
The appointment will last for about thirty minutes to an hour depending on the nature of the condition. The specialist will talk to you for some time learning details about how your pet first became ill and then give him or her a very thorough clinical examination.
Next, the specialist will carefully discuss all the options for your pet with regard to further tests, treatments and estimated costs. We want you to understand completely what the possible treatments are.
Finally, if your pet is to be hospitalised we will ensure we have your contact details to keep you updated on your pet’s progress. As soon as possible we will tell you the name of the nurse dedicated to be your pet’s "best friend" during their stay.
