Soft Tissue & ENT Surgery
Soft tissue surgery means operating on any part of the body other than the bones. So this means surgery of the ears nose and throat (E.N.T.), the chest, abdomen (stomach, intestines, spleen, liver, kidneys, bladder), skin or muscles. Operations may be to completely remove, or biopsy (sample), diseased organs, remove growths or to repair damage due to injury.
Most surgical procedures require co-operation between clinicians in different departments in the clinic to diagnose and localise the problem.
Advanced nursing care plays a pivotal role in the pre and post operative care of each patient. The final surgical outcome is the result of a team of dedicated professionals working together with the aid of state of the art equipment.
Common conditions seen include; disorders resulting from extreme breed shapes, chronic ear disease, tumour removal, hernias, porto-systemic shunts, bladder disorders and foreign bodies in the bowel.
At your appointment with the NKR Veterinary Specialist surgeon your pet’s history will be carefully evaluated. Any further tests or procedures needed to confirm a diagnosis will be recommended and discussed with you. Where surgery is indicated, blood tests will be taken to ensure that general anaesthesia will be safe for your pet. We usually try to carry out operations, if required, on the day of your first consultation, in order to minimise the anxiety and inconvenience of delay for both of you.
