Internal Medicine veterinary specialists are dedicated to diagnosing, treating and preventing just about any disease process that exists. They are there to help you and your pet by applying their expert knowledge and a wide range of laboratory tests and investigative procedures. Sometimes the treatment will require an operation and the surgery team will become involved once a diagnosis has been made.

Common examples of conditions include; long standing gastro-enteric upsets, recurring unexplained fevers, blood disorders like anaemia and of course a whole range of cancers that can affect any organ in the body.

When you see the medicine specialist they will spend at least an hour taking very careful notes about your pet’s medical history and lifestyle. With your consent, your pet will often be admitted on the same day for further investigations such as blood tests, ultrasound examination, X-rays, MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), CT (computed tomography) scan, endoscopy or biopsies. We try to go step by step looking for the most likely causes first. After the investigations some pets can go home to wait for results, but others may need to be kept in hospital for additional treatment or more complicated tests. We try to minimise inconvenience to you by scheduling your appointment with possible further investigations in mind.
