Diagnostic Imaging

Diagnostic imaging is the use of different technologies to visualise the inside of the body. X–rays are the most common and we use state of the art direct digital radiography to get instant high quality pictures, this reduces the time a patient has to spend under anaesthesia.

Not all problems show up well on x-rays however and our diagnostic imaging specialists also use other techniques; Ultrasound, the system routinely used to scan human pregnancies, is invaluable in assessing the chest and abdominal organs and even the eyeball. For even more detailed and in depth examination they have access to both Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT) scanners that can pinpoint brain tumours, slipped discs and certain types of tumour that just cannot be seen on x-rays.

At NKR Veterinary Specialists our diagnostic imagers work closely with their surgical, medical and ophthalmic colleagues to select the most appropriate way of obtaining as much information as they can about the appearance and condition of just about any body part. You may not have direct contact with them, but they are still part of the team dedicated to making your pet better as quickly as possible.

NKR Veterinary Specialists Diagnostic Imaging Department also offers a film reading service.

Please use our Radiology Report Request Form

You can submit films to us via the Post or you can e-mail digital copies. Please contact our Administration Department who will be able to assist you.

Please also note, that in order for us to narrow the differential diagnosis list and give you as much useful information as possible, we kindly request that you complete the form as much as possible and submit it with your films please. We appreciate your valuable time spent doing this, but it will be time well spent as it will enable our expert Monica Merlo DVM MRCVS to have all the clinical information needed to generate a meaningful report for you.
