About Us

NKR Veterinary Specialists began in 2001 as North Kent Referrals when John Hutt recognised that there was a need for a specialist referral clinic in Kent. Since we opened our doors to our first worried owner and their sick pet we have expanded steadily, as has our reputation for being a premier referral clinic.

We now have many specialists and clinicians who are experts, some world renowned, in their particular field. We are a truly international service and are very proud of the fact that we have carefully and selectively recruited from around the globe and that NKR Veterinary Specialists has a worldwide reputation for excellence.

NKR Veterinary Specialists (as North Kent Referrals) achieved Hospital status recognition in the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeon’s Practice standards scheme in early 2007. This involves a rigorous inspection by the RCVS to ensure standards have been attained that provide the highest levels of patient care, cleanliness, equipment and expertise; repeat inspection takes place every four years. It is still voluntary for veterinary practices to participate in this scheme, which gives owners the reassurance that NKR Veterinary Specialists offers their pets the highest possible standards of care and treatment.

In August 2009 with the addition of two more specialist referral clinics in London and Surrey we evolved into NKR Veterinary Specialists. We continue to work with and ask questions from first opinion veterinary surgeons, to find out how we can improve our service to them, their patients and clients. We listen to what our clients tell us about our service and are always looking for ways to improve it, for the benefit of their pet’s welfare and to minimise their own stress when their special pet is sick.

NKR Veterinary Specialists’ philosophy has always been and still is, to give our referring vets, their patients and owners our complete support whenever they want it.

All our staff from specialists, ambulance drivers, administrators, nurses and managers each work hard in their own area of expertise to contribute to this philosophy. We have now put ‘Complete Support When You Want It’ into our new logo as an expression of our commitment to the highest standards of treatment and care for referred sick pets and their owners.
